“There has to be a better way?” That simple thought was the catalyst to the formation of the success story that is Plan B Wealth Management. A year after the infamous stock market crash of 1987 having witnessed a total lack of empathy among financial organisations towards its clients, Bryan Taylor, Plan B's founder set out to create a new way of thinking, a new way of doing business. His objective was to create a financial services business where both the client and the advisory services firm could achieve mutual satisfaction. Bryan adopted the slogan, "If the client wins, then we win, it's as simple as that". Today, Plan B Wealth Management is an integrative wealth management firm that provides a wide range of solutions for private and institutional investors, fiduciaries and professional service firms. The cornerstones of Plan B's investment philosophy lie in our close relationships with the world’s most respected academics in the field of financial economics and investment, and our ability to effectively utilise their findings to improve our service to our investors. In tangible terms, this means our clients can have confidence in our delivery of market returns on a risk-adjusted basis and our consistency in achieving these returns over time. Plan B – Strategic Asset Management Journey In the early 1990’s, several independent international research visits undertaken by the founders of Plan B, Bryan Taylor & Craig Lubich; and Alex Fowler of Strategic Asset Management, became aware that scientific research in the field of modern finance gave compelling evidence that the then current investment strategies lacked modern structures, risk controls, cost efficiencies, taxation management and transparency. From this time the importance of the two companies sharing knowledge, technology and business process efficiencies became apparent. This relationship developed to a point in 2005 where Plan B acquired a 25% shareholding in Strategic Asset Management. In 2006, for many reasons including succession planning and business development, the decision was made to merge the two companies and Plan B acquired 100% of Strategic Asset Management. Today all the foundation shareholders of both companies actively meet as members of the group’s ‘Advisory Committee’, keeping abreast of international best practice and technology, and ensuring the commitment to clients is met with confidence. Plan B also complies with and champions fi360, an international network of fiduciaries who adhere to the highest process standards in their clients’ interest. Plan B is distinctive in the wealth management industry as we have our own funds management company, Plan B Trustees Limited, which has over NZ$1.9 billion in funds under management. After researching current alternatives and at the behest of our clients we established our own fund management company because that was the only way that we could:
Complementing Plan B's growth, is the ever increasing access to our proprietary tools such as True North through a growing, global network of licensed representatives and partners with offices in USA, UK, Europe and Asia Pacific. Plan B is also well poised to take advantage of any global opportunities that may arise.
